Increasing the Online Presence of your Beauty Business

With the rise of social media in the last decade, the beauty industry has seen a great increase in popularity. But a rise in popularity also brings with it a rise in competition, for this reason, if you own an online beauty business, a strong online presence is almost fundamental for your success.

The beauty industry can be divided into three categories: producers, stockists, and influencers.

While influencers can succeed with just a successful social media page where they promote other people’s products, producers and stockists need to sell products to succeed, thus an effective SEO and Marketing strategy is almost fundamental for their growth.

Reviews

Getting reviews about your store is important for convincing potential customers that they should buy products from your site, especially if you are a new business. For this reason, when a customer makes a purchase make sure that once they have received their order you send them an email asking them to leave a review on your site. But these aren’t the only important reviews, you must also try and get reviews on your products.

Before deciding to purchase a product or service, customers will usually look for reviews. Meaning that if they click on your page and do not find a review on it, they might end up searching elsewhere for a review, thus loosing interest in your business. For this reason, a reminder one month after they have purchased their product/service can be useful, this way they can describe their experience and convince other potential customers to purchase it.

Using an antispam plugin such as Clean Talk is also recommended as you will often get reviews that have nothing to do with the product and are just advertising another page.

One of the best ways to get new potential customers on your site is to have other people talk about it. This can be achieved in two different ways:

Blog Posts: writing guest posts on beauty blogs will improve your SEO score. Make sure that they are related to your topic and that they do not have a high spam score. Another metric that can be checked is the Domain Authority. You should look for high domain authority, especially in older sites. Low DA is not bad if the site is not spammy and the post is on topic. If it’s a new site it will start with a very low DA so having a link on a site with low DA is not all bad as in the future the site could evolve, and its DA might get higher. Domain Authority and Spam Score can be checked using add-ons such as Moz’s extension Mozbar, try to aim for a Domain Authority of at least 40 and with a low spam score.

Influencer Outreach: getting an influencer to talk about your product/store can be very helpful for creating brand awareness. For beauty products, Instagram and YouTube are possibly the most effective platforms to advertise on. Creating personalised discount codes for these influencers audiences will further incentivize them to purchase your products. When doing this make sure that the page is followed by people of the demographic you are trying to attract and is not using a bot service. It is not uncommon for accounts to buy followers or engagement. You can find out different ways of finding out if a page uses bots in Find Your Influencer’s post.

Mobile-Friendly Website

One of the first things that you should do for your beauty site, is to create a mobile-friendly website. This is especially important if you are going to advertise through influencer outreach, as most people will check social media on their mobile devices. According to statistics almost 55% of searches conducted online come from mobile devices while desktop searches stand at around 42%. You can use tools like Google Mobile-Friendly Test to find any issues and get solutions for them.

Page Keywords

Each page must include the keywords that you want that page to rank the highest for on search engines. It is recommended that you include the word in the title and once for every 200 words of content. Make sure that each website is focusing on a unique keyword, as having more than one page targeting the same keyword will make them both compete with each other.

Blog & Newsletter

Having a blog and a newsletter is important for the beauty industry to keep your brand relevant and for engaging your customers. A blog every week, about topics that will interest your customers and newsletter subscribers, will keep them interested and incentivize them to purchase more products. When it comes to blogs, make sure that the primary focus is to inform people and the secondary one is to sell your products. The newsletter can be similar to blog posts but can also be used for promoting your latest offers/coupons to your subscribers.
